It really doesn’t matter who you ask: a home’s roof is its most important defense against the elements, and Builders FirstSource agrees. We recognize that a Oregon roof takes a terrible beating from snow, sleet, rain, wind and every other arsenal mother nature can throw it’s way. That’s why our locations in Oregon stock only the roofing systems we know that you can depend on.
Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt composite shingles are durable, come in a full spectrum of colors and styles, and are a long-time favorite because of their affordability. At Builders FirstSource we carry the top brands of shingles, like CertainTeed and IKO:
CertainTeed’s Landmark asphalt shingles offer Streakfighter and NailTrack technologies in all classic, pro, and premium shingles. The Streakfighter shingle blend utilizes copper’s natural properties to fight Algae. Nailing is simple with NailTrak, a nailing strip 3 times larger than most, allowing a speedy and easier installation. Being wind, fire, tear, and wind driven rain resistant, these shingles are built to withstand harsh winters.

IKO boasts four collections of residential shingles—Premium, Performance, Architectural and Traditional. Premium shingles have the heritage look of natural wood shakes or genuine slate tiles without the maintenance issues of wood or slate. Performance shingles are reinforced with ArmourZone and come with Class 4 Impact Resistance Ratings and high-wind warranties. Architectural shingles offer that showcase dimensional look while IKO’s Traditional shingles are standard three-tabs with a fiberglass mat.
Other Roofing Options
Of course, our Builders FirstSource locations also carry other roofing options suitable for Oregon’s climate and weather, like cedar shakes and metal roofing.
Natural cedar shingles or shakes offer a strong roof able to withstand snow and wind. Plus, wood is a good insulator in and of itself. With the proper maintenance, a cedar roof can last several decades, and for all those years—up to 40—you get the unmistakable look of cedar.
Metal roofing are durable, safe, environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and outlast other roofing options. Metal roofs perform well in high wind areas (can sustain wind gusts up to 135 mph), rarely crack or corrode, and can last up to 70 years! The same roofs reflect solar radiant heat which can reduce cooling costs are flame resistant and do not catch fire if struck by lightning, and are typically produced using recycled materials.
